Copied!

Let me introduce to you a gentleman who bears an uncanny resemblance to Chris Pratt (in his Parks & Recreation days) and has the amazing ability to diffuse any looming tension in a room. Mitchell, our iOS and Android developer, is just one of those guys you just can’t help but like. He is the epitome of whatever the opposite of pretentious is, but let’s see how well he responds to some hard hitting (sarcasm intended) interview questions.

What is your quick bio/background

“I moved to Vancouver from small town Orillia, Ontario to pursue programming. After graduation I got a job here.” He pauses, and proceeds to laugh for no reason. “This is weird, I feel like I’m being interviewed.”
“In school, one of my professors was currently working at TTT part-time, and teaching part time, and he got us to come to the ViDiA meetup, where I met Chris.  Through my professor Ash’s recommendation, I ended up working at TTT.
I enjoy learning new things all the time, doing both iOS and Android. I’m currently now teaching at the same school that I learned my programming skills. I don’t know what Farzad and Vitor have been telling you, but I’ve been told that ‘I’ am actually the funniest guy in the office.” I don’t know when this became a competition, but okay. Does being the funniest come with perks that I don’t know about? Guess I wouldn’t know. 🙁

What are some interesting things about yourself?

“I’m the best at any and all sports in the office, and I’m not afraid to flaunt it. Like Farzad said, I won first place for the highest kick. I used to coach hockey and soccer back in Orillia. I used to be very competitive, but I think I’ve mellowed out with age.” He’s 27, I have no idea what he’s talking about.
“I get weird looks for stepping outside in January in Vancouver wearing a t-shirt and sandals. I’m still waiting to experience this “winter” that Vancouverites are talking about. I’ve been here 3 years, haven’t seen it yet. Anything above -15C doesn’t count as winter”.

What is your most memorable moment working here?

  • The spider prank
  • Vitor’s doll
  • Rap battle
  • Nick Cage Prank
  • Photoshop pranks
  • The domino incident
  • Rice on rice
  • Yogurt hour
  • All the Christmas parties
  • All the BBQs

I wanted to ask about some of these, but I’m not sure I actually wanna know nor do I think it’d be smart to pry, so let’s just leave it at that.

What is your secret super power? (something you’re very good at, that not everyone knows)

“Remaining calm when everyone else is stressing out. I’m surprisingly composed when I need to be. When it comes to meeting deadlines and getting stuff done,  I’m your guy.”

What do you enjoy working on the most?

“I enjoy coding in Swift. I also find it exciting to work on new projects. I like anything a Mobile Developer would consider a good challenge.”

What do you like to do in your free time?

“I like to hang out with my friends and roomates. Maybe over some classy beers like warm Budweisers. You know, just super civilized.”

Bonus: Who do look up to?  (Who is your hero) Why?

“I really like this interview with Matthew Mcconaughey. When he got asked this same question, his answer was himself in 25 years because he’s always trying to better himself and be someone that he can look up to in the future. I thought that was pretty cool.”

Edit: I just wanted to add a side note. The first time you meet Mitch, he’s so down to Earth and so much fun that people often overlook one thing that all of us that work with him know. He is extremely smart. Mitch is one of the few programmers who can do everything well, but is too humble to show it.
