After a two-year hiatus, TTT Studios was thrilled to host our first in-person event since the beginning of Covid-19! Last week, we were happy to meet with a group of talented design students from the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in the Graphic + Digital Design program.
Similar to last year’s virtual event, Fraser Valley’s Design Instructor, Andrew McKinley, invited our design team to participate in GD304’s (Course: User Experience Design) design critique. As part of the students’ final project, they were asked to form groups, create a potential app idea, and explain the design process and how it solves users' pain points.
Walkabout design critique recap
With the students only being in the early stages of their final project, these future designers had the opportunity to present their app features at whatever phase they were in. We got to see it all, from early wireframe concepts to some mature stages of user interface (UI). The goal of the critique was for the students to present their features and receive feedback from industry professionals.
To add a spin to the design critique, project wireframes were posted around the office for students and TTT designers to walk through. Everyone was encouraged to add stickies with any feedback for improvement they recommended.
Each of the projects demonstrated creativity, innovation and touched on diverse topics. The ideas ranged from an app that caters to the cycling community, transit assistance, and assisting those that experience anxiety surrounding climate change.
By the end of the walkthrough, students had the opportunity to present their final project concepts to our fabulous TTT’ers, which included:

- Intermediate UX/UI Designer - Joy Almazan
- Junior UX/UI Designer - Raymond Chou
There was also an opportunity to ask questions or elaborate on any sticky notes students or TTT’s designers may have added during the walkthrough. As the design students continue to move forward with their projects, the feedback the students receive from the critique will be used as a guided direction in their project development.
